MELVIN WHITMIRE

Melvin Whitmire, of Hunlock Creek, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2025, at Allied Hospice on Meade Street. He was born on April 6, 1940, in Wilkes-Barre, and was the son of the late Robert and Goldie Stackhouse.

Melvin was a graduate of Harter High School and spent many years as a dedicated worker. He was employed by American Tobacco, later by Triangle Shoes, and ultimately retired from Leslie Fay.

In his free time, Melvin enjoyed bowling and spending time outdoors, especially riding the trails in the woods behind his home on his ATVs. He also enjoyed shooting at the range and watching football games. One of his greatest joys was listening to his son Robert share stories from work, moments he treasured deeply.

Melvin was a former member of Saint Faustina Parish in Nanticoke. He will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, his strong work ethic, and his devotion to his family.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Arline Hall Whitmire, and his son, Stephen Whitmire. He is survived by his son, Robert Whitmire, of Hunlock Creek.

Private services were held as per Melvin's wishes.
